It looks like, early on, that GST is going to take another step towards higher levels of competition this year again. Hope you want to pit yourself against top competition--because that is, more and more, year after year, what you are going to find with GST!
Hint: If you want to have a better chance of dominating GST, think about jumping into the new leagues.

Mr Miyagi and I expect those "higher levels of competition" to include Bigger Payouts. We certainly enjoy stiff competition, but the "reward", in "risk vs reward" has gotta be there also. Bansai, THE KARATE KID

The GST purse (for all but a few leagues) is standard. It hinges on entry fee of a particular league times league size. With the advent of the Playoff Purse, that will diminish slightly. However, GST is known for having the largest payouts of most any fmlb leagues! One GM won almost $3000! Another won over $2000. Several others won over $1000.
You played in one of the smaller entry fees for a GST Premium Pro league. Yes the purse was larger than even larger GST Pro leagues, but still much smaller than most GST leagues. This will be the case when there is a restriction to auction leagues, where the maximum entry size is 14 teams.
GST is not your mom and pop leagues that pay out to half the regular season teams and half to the playoff winners--designed to make everyone happy. GST is built to attract the TOP competition where the best of the best will win big and the others will tip their cap to the winners--in respect to a season well played. This is the Professional level that attracts the top GMs. GST is about pitting your skills against the BEST, NOT about winning (entirely). GST remains adamant that you NOT play with money you or your family cannot afford to lose and will delete any team that GST is convinced is doing so.
That said, as GST provides a WIDE variety of leagues--there are 2 leagues where EVERY SINGLE GM is a winner! Pro Am and ProCEO.

You run great Leagues Harry. Mr Miyagi and I plan on buying a vintage fixer-upper "68" Camaro with our GST winnings in 2012. Of course, we will be reprising our wax-on wax-off system in order to Renovate the auto, and Dominate your GST League(s). Bansai, THE KARATE KID

LOL, I wonder if there is ANYBODY who hasn't seen that movie and perfectly understand where you are coming from.
You are definitely an anomoly in GST, with your auction requirement--but so be it, it just makes GST that much more strategic. Luckily for you the Tournament of Champions is Auction, no matter how large it gets!
