It was amazing what Granderson did while in Detroit, with getting a double triple--20+ doubles, triples, and homeruns; never done since Schulte won an MVP trophy doing the same long, long ago.
But do you know how many triples is actually the record? That was set in 1912 by Big Chief Wilson. He wasn't one of the greats, though he was pretty darn good. He wasn't a major base stealer (17). Unlike basestealers, who are famous for being up to top speed within steps, he had a different skill. The story goes, right off the reservation--back when they were known as Indians, or Red Men, not Native Americans like today--he was known to be able to constantly accelerate. This meant that if an outfielder missed cutting off a hit, even by a little bit, was a triple in the making for the aggressive Big Chief.
So how many triples did he have? 36 -- you can LOOK IT UP!
